Pack 968 Cub Scout Signup Instructions:
Welcome to scouts. There are two application forms to
complete. One form is to sign up your scout, and one form is for an adult
volunteer. An adult volunteer (usually a parent) must sign up with each
scout, as the scouting program is family oriented and completely run by
volunteers. The adult volunteers are involved in many ways, such as
helping out with organizing/running/supervising a den meeting or event,
attending parent committee meetings to help plan upcoming activities, or
taking a den or pack leadership position - whatever works best for you.
Make sure you fully complete the Cub Scout Youth Application, from the scout’s
name on down (you can leave the part above the scout’s name blank). The
parent’s signature at the bottom is required (I’ll sign as Cubmaster, and
you don’t need to fill in the amount of fees at the very bottom – we’ll
take care of that).
Also fill out the Adult Application completely, starting with your name. The
background and reference information is required, as is your signature (at
the bottom of the form). You can again leave the top part of the form
above your name blank. We’ll also fill out the following fields:
Training code & date, Program, Position Code, Position, Boys’ Life, and
Fees (at the very bottom). We’ll take care of the approval signatures in
the bottom-right part of the form.
You can return the filled out forms to me in the mail (or bring them to a
scout meeting), along with a check for $40 made out to Cub Scout Pack 968.
This will cover your son’s first year registration fees, Boy's Life
magazine, his Scout handbook, a neckerchief and neckerchief slide for his
uniform, and all awards/patches that he'll earn during the year. You'll
need to purchase his uniform shirt. You won't ever need to pay any more
fees after the initial signup fee - in each year after the first year the
annual costs for the above listed items are paid for by the proceeds the
Scouts receive from our annual Christmas Tree Lot fundraiser at the El
Segundo Scout House. This works out to be a very good deal for the scouts
and their families, as the out-of-pocket expenses after the initial signup
are minimal for as long as the scout stays in scouting. To make this work,
each family that has a scout in the program must contribute 16 hours of
volunteer time at the Christmas Tree lot, doing things like tree sales,
delivery, attaching stands to the trees, flocking, etc.
First grade boys sign up as Tiger Cubs, second graders are Wolf cub
scouts, third graders are Bear cub scouts, and fourth and fifth graders
are Webelos scouts. We don't generally have scout meetings during the
summer; regular den and pack meetings resume in September. The summer
activities we do have are the Soap Box Derby (July), and optional
day/resident camps. We will have an annual parents planning meeting,
probably in late August, to schedule the major events we want to do for
the coming year (camping trips, pinewood derby, the annual Blue and Gold
banquet, other outings, etc.).
Feel free to email me with any questions you may have.
Thanks, and once again, welcome.
